Modigliani a Livorno

1° DAY:
Arrival in Livorno in the morning and check-in in hotel ( 3, 4 or 5 stars)
Free time for lunch
Visit of the «Modigliani and the adventures in Montparnasse» exhibition at the Museum of the City of Livorno.
Dinner at a typical local restaurant, offering authentic Livornese cuisine dishes.
Overnight in hotel, in a double room, breakfast included.

2° DAY:

• Guided Tour of the «Fortezza Vecchia» fortress  (1h 30min approx.)
  The Old Fortress represents one of the city’s most significant monuments. Its strategic position at the Medicean Darsena, or old dock of the port of Livorno, built by the Medici family, gives you the opportunity to see and  feel Livorno’s military history, regardless of the Second World War bombings and destruction.
   
• Guided tour of the Fattori Museum ( 1h 40min approx.)
  The museum houses the masterpieces of Giovanni Fattori and other important works of the «Macchiaioli» movement. The museum is located inside a 19th century villa called  «Villa Mimbelli».
  Opening hours: Tuesday-Sunday 10.00am-1.00pm and 4.00pm-7.00pm, Last admission 30 minutes before closing time.
   
• Visit of the Acquarium of Livorno (1h approx.)
  We recommend a visit of the underwater world at the Acquarium, located at the seafront promenade, just where the beautiful Mascagni Terrace begins. There is a vast variety of marine species for you to discover, personalised educational paths for adults and the little ones.
  Opening hours: every day from 10.00am to 7.00pm, last admission at 6.00pm.
   
• City Sightseeing ( 1h30min approx.)
  Enjoy the city’s lively spirit, a mix of cultures and traditions, on board of a Hop On Hop Off bus. Marvel at the stunning Mascagni Terrace and the old central market.
  First departure of the day starts at 11 am, Last departure starts at 2 pm on prearranged days. Activity may be subject to variations based on weather conditions

• Visit of the Natural History Museum and of the Mediterranean ( 1h approx.)
  Located in the 18th century villa «Villa Henderson», the museum offers its exhibitions in a modern building inside the park.
  Visit the fascinating Hall of the Sea, dedicated to the biology and evolution of whales, with an exposition of skeletons and sea animals in the Mediterranean reproduced in dioramas. The itinerary includes The Hall of Man, the Hall of Invertebrates and the botanic garden.
  Opening hours: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday 9.00am-7.00pm, Wednesday and Friday 9.00am-1.00pm, Sunday 3.00pm-7.00pm.

• Boat Tour in the «Quartiere Venezia» neighbourhood ( 40 min approx.)
  A charming boat ride through the heart of Livorno, along the unique system of ancient canals, called «Canali Medicei». The tour will allow you to discover picturesque churches, ancient residences, waterways and fortresses of the Medici family.
  Activity may be subject to variations based on weather conditions

• Walking Tour through the streets of the «Quartiere Venezia» and the Central Market with a guide (1h30min approx).
  Walk along the «Fossi Medicei» canals while a professional guide will be engaging you in stories and secrets of the picturesque corners and hidden gems of the neighbourhood Quartiere Venezia. You will learn the history of «via della Madonna» , a street where three different religious cults shared peacefully the same space for centuries.  The tour  ends inside the covered historic Central Market, where you will taste the famous 5&5 sandwich with chickpea cake.
  Opening hours: Monday - Thursday, 5.30am- 3.00pm, Friday  and Saturday 5.30am- 3.00pm and 6.00pm-11.00pm.

• Special Modigliani itinerary with a private guide (1h30min approx.)
  Walk through the streets and secret places of the center of Livorno, while a private guide tells you stories about Amedeo Modigliani’s life. The starting point is at the Synagogue, proceeding to the Central Market, Piazza Cavour, the Niccolini Guerrazzi High School in Via Rossi, Piazza Magenta, arriving at the "Casa Museo Modigliani”.
